Centros Back With ‘New’ Plans

centros.jpgDevelopers Centros have been back in town showing the latest version of their plans for the controversial redevelopment of the Canal Corridor area of town to local councillors and interested parties. Planning applications for this version of the scheme are due to be submitted in the 2nd week of June.

Green Party Gets Animated

broadcast.jpgThe Green Party’s visually stunning broadcast for the local elections was broadcast on Tues 15th April at 18.25 on ITV and 18.55 on both BBC1 . The film,produced by Contaminant Media and animated by sought-after Shroom Studios, uses no actors; instead real people were invited to discuss their concerns, making a compelling argument for Green solutions for a more affordable and fairer society.

Carnival of Culture Success

Saturday 1st of March saw Lancaster’s Carnival of Culture come off without a hitch. During the day, between 250-350 people joined in a fantastically colourful, creative and vibrant street procession that snaked around the town through the afternoon, stopping in spots that are due to be blighted by car-parks, big box retail shopping and so forth, as well as the town square with it’s Trumpton-style Victoria statue, the City hall and the planners’ offices.

Channel4 ‘Censors’ Green Mayoral Candidate

sian-b.jpgSian Berry, Green candidate for London Mayor , has had her appearance on Channel4s political slot ‘censored’. In the original film, Siân explained how Greens on the London Assembly won a big pay rise for cleaners in the Fire Brigade by using their power of the Mayor’s budget to create the London Living Wage Unit. But Channel 4 didn’t want you to see that. So they cut it out.

Lancaster Holocaust Memorial Day

candle.jpgOver 100 people attended Lancaster Holocaust Memorial Day events at the Town Hall in Lancaster on Thursday 24th January. Candles were lit for the various group persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime; Jews, Roma & Gypsies, gay men and lesbians, people with disabilities, political activists, and those targeted for their religious beliefs.

Bribing For Britain

bribe.jpgGreen County Councillor Chris Coates has criticised colleagues at County Hall for accepting an invitation to visit BAE Systems at Salmesbury. In a letter to all County councillors Cllr Coates said “I have no wish to be associated with a company that appears to think that bribery and fraud are acceptable business practice and I think that the visit of County Councillors to the site at Salmsebury brings the County Council into disrepute.” (more…)

Lawsons Bridge Sell Off

lawsonspostcardsm.jpgLancaster City Council’s cabinet is due to make a decision on the ‘tender brief’ for the sale Lawsons Bridge fields (between the A6, Ray’s Drive and the railway) on Tuesday 22 January 2008.

Scotforth Cllr Emily Heath said “ People should let the council know what they feel about them selling off these fields to the highest bidder. The last thing we need in south Lancaster is a giant new supermarket.” (more…)

Tree Planting at Animal Care

bleaf.jpgSeeds for Change have got 500 beech and hawthorn trees that need planting at Animal Care on Saturday 9th Feb 9am -3pm.So if you want to do something positive then get on down there and get your hands mucky. Even half an hour of your time would be much appreciated.

You will need to bring a packed lunch, some good footwear (preferably wellies) and a spade if possible, although there should be enough to go around. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
