Plan BEE

The Co-operative has launched Plan Bee, a campaign and 10-point plan to help save the bee. Worried about the disappearance of bee colonies in recent years the campaign aims to get research going on the causes of the losses and to get people involved in saving bees.

As part of the Campaign the Dukes Cinema is showing the film The Vanishing of Bees on Thursday 21st of Jan at 6.30pm

Leading Councillor to Contest Morecambe Seat

chriscoatesmar09small.jpgGreen County & City councillor Chris Coates has been selected as the prospective Green parliamentary candidate for the Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency at the next general election. Cllr Coates said after the result of the ballot of local members was announced at a recent Green Party monthly meeting, “The time has come for us to look beyond the bits of the area where we are strong and take a Green message out across the whole District. I look forward to the challenge of campaigning in Morecambe and the Lune Valley.” (more…)


Green Objections to Centros

Lancaster District Hardly Matters

pound.jpgFollowing a seven hour budget meeting, that saw amendments from all party’s, Lancaster City Council finally set a budget for the next year. Speaking afterwards Green Group leader Cllr Chris Coates said “The budget that we started with at the beginning of the meeting was bad enough, what we have ended up with is a real dogs-dinner -  where ever you live in the District you will be affected one way or another by the cuts in this budget.” (more…)


Heysham Bypass funding still not in place

lorry.jpgThe DfT has announced “programme entry” status for the HM6L.  This means that the bypass has now got to first base on its bid for £137 million of taxpayers money. This does not mean the bypass can be built and programme entry status does not guarantee funding.  It can be withdrawn over the next few months.

Commenting on the DfT announcement, Councillor John Whitelegg (Bulk Ward, Green Party) who gave evidence at the public inquiry into the bypass said:“It took DfT over 3 years of discussion with the County Council to get to this point when it normally takes 6 months.  DfT knows this bypass was not properly evaluated by County, is bad value for money, destructive and damaging to the green belt and the residents of Torrisholme.”
