Gina Dowding said ” With some 20,000 Poles living and working in the North West we need to no make sure that they are not being exploited or their lives put at risk. A588 Road Safety Study Result

conderg.jpgA scheme of road safety measures for the stretch of the A588 from Thurnham Bridge through Conder Green to Arna Wood Road will be put forward for consideration for funding in next years round of the County Council’s Local Safety Scheme programme. This follows the publication of an Accident Study Report carried out following two fatal crashes on the road in the past five years and concerns raised by local residents about the dangers all along the road. The detailed report recommends a number of measures including; new signage, realigning road markings, rumble strips and interactive flashing SLOW DOWN signs at an estimated cost of £50,000.

Canatex Gas Storage Plans Thrown Out

canatex.jpgControversial plans by Energy company Canatex to store natural gas in underground salt caverns at Preesall have been thrown out by planning inspectors. Canatex wanted to store more than one million tonnes of gas in salt caverns beneath the Wyre estuary. A public inquiry was held and the plans have now been dismissed by the Communities Secretary Hazel Blears. More than 10,000 residents initially protested against the plans.
