Climate change is not just a matter of global weather patterns. This week’s storms are a taste of what is to come. The turbulent weather conditions hitting the country this week are a worrying sign of things to come unless the Government takes a tougher line on climate change, Green MEP Caroline Lucas warned today.

Gina Dowding, the Green Party candidate for the Lancaster and Fleetwood parliamentary constituency was the main speaker at a public meeting at Milton St Youth and Community Centre in Fleetwood on Wednesday, March 5.
An audience of local Fleetwood reisdents heard the former Lancaster City Council cabinet member outline what she considered to be the key issues facing Fleetwood in the future. These ranged from the threat posed by climate change to the need for affordable housing and the possibilities for a sustainable fishing industry.

Green MEP for South-East England Caroline Lucas today condemned Gordon Brown’s plans announced to MPs by Business Secretary John Hutton, which commit Britain to a future of nuclear power.
Dr Lucas, a long-standing campaigner against the use of nuclear energy, attacked New Labour’s “love affair with nuclear” as “a dangerous, irresponsible and costly distraction from the real challenge of tackling climate change”, following today’s Government decision which will spark a new generation of nuclear facilities in the UK. The Green Party has selected former Lancaster City Councillor Gina Dowding as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the new Lancaster and Fleetwood constituency. British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML) were put on the back foot at a packed and lively meeting at Glasson Dock village Hall earlier this week. At the start of the meeting Lancaster City Council’s chief planning officer, Andrew Dobson, announced that he had asked for a full Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) to be carried out. (more…)

The TUC has launched a new Polish language website to support the increasing number of Polish workers in the UK. Gina Dowding said ” With some 20,000 Poles living and working in the North West we need to no make sure that they are not being exploited or their lives put at risk.
