Although the Post Office has made a strong bid, it is far from certain that it will win the contract. The National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP) is taking action to secure the contract for the Post Office and a future for the post office network (more…)

Glasson Marina Plans Must Go To Planning

glassonm.jpg Plans by British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML) to redevelop the canal basin at Glasson without putting in any planning application were ruled to be out of order by the Government Office for the North West. Chris Coates,Green County Councillor for Glasson said “…this is what everyone has been calling for from the start. The marina company have been arrogant and somewhat foolish in pushing ahead without taking into account the views of local people.” (more…)

Going Green from Lancaster to Delhi

delhi.jpgGina Dowding, the Green prospective parliamentary candidate for Lancaster & Fleetwood, shared a platform with the Mayor of Delhi, Ms Arti Mehra, at the Local Government Association national conference in Liverpool on Wednesday 12th March. The former Lancaster City Council cabinet member joined the Indian Mayor in a panel discussion on the threats posed by climate change and the sorts of actions that local councils could take to reduce carbon emissions and to prepare for the effects of global warming. Cllr Chris Coates Addresses Scottish Party

cd.jpgLancashire Green County Councillor Chris Coates was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of Scottish Greens in Castle Douglas in Galloway last week. Cllr Coates spoke about the success of the Green Party in Lancaster and there was a lively discussion on how that might be repeated in South West Scotland.
Also speaking at the meeting was Cllr Kieran Wild from Glasgow Green Party.

Green Party Fleetwood Public Meeting

gina-face.jpgGina Dowding, the Green Party candidate for the Lancaster and Fleetwood parliamentary constituency was the main speaker at a public meeting at Milton St Youth and Community Centre in Fleetwood on Wednesday, March 5.

An audience of local Fleetwood reisdents heard the former Lancaster City Council cabinet member outline what she considered to be the key issues facing Fleetwood in the future. These ranged from the threat posed by climate change to the need for affordable housing and the possibilities for a sustainable fishing industry.
