Plan BEE

The Co-operative has launched Plan Bee, a campaign and 10-point plan to help save the bee. Worried about the disappearance of bee colonies in recent years the campaign aims to get research going on the causes of the losses and to get people involved in saving bees.

As part of the Campaign the Dukes Cinema is showing the film The Vanishing of Bees on Thursday 21st of Jan at 6.30pm

Centros Protestors Cleared

Four residents of Lancaster charged with Aggravated Trespass after they entered Centros’ London offices and refused to leave were last week found Not Guilty. After a two day trial,  the District Judge said she was satisfied that the protesters actions were peaceful and lawful.

Aurora Trujillo, one of the protestors, said “We’ve been acquitted, but we’ve still got the real battle ahead, to stop Centros turning Lancaster into one more Clone Town.”

Lancaster District Hardly Matters

pound.jpgFollowing a seven hour budget meeting, that saw amendments from all party’s, Lancaster City Council finally set a budget for the next year. Speaking afterwards Green Group leader Cllr Chris Coates said “The budget that we started with at the beginning of the meeting was bad enough, what we have ended up with is a real dogs-dinner -  where ever you live in the District you will be affected one way or another by the cuts in this budget.” (more…)


Mental Health Unit – Latest

ra-fields.jpgAt a meeting on January 6th of the County Council’s Health Overview & Scrutiny committee Lancashire Care Trust confirmed their intention to push ahead with the Royal Albert Fields site as its preferred location for a new mental health unit in North Lancashire.. This was despite strong criticism of its selection procedure by the Committee (see Task group report.)and calls from local Green Councillors for the whole process to be scrapped and started again. University of Cumbria attend PACT

pact_yellow_120.jpgThe University of Cumbria’s Head of Estates and new Travel Plan Coordinator attended the December PACT meeting to talk to residents about ongoing traffic and parking issues in the ward. The new travel coordinator has only been in post two weeks, so has yet to get to grips with the problems, but after attending the meeting now understands the extend of local residents’ frustrations. He has agree to attend the March 2009 PACT meeting (3rd, 7.30pm, University of Cumbria) to update residents on the progress he is making to help address the issues.
 
The University’s Head of Estates also gave out a local telephone number for resdients to call if that have any issues regarding the University. The number goes through to Estates and if they are unable to help directly, they have promised to forward calls to the most appropriate person within the University.
