The Green Party has held a seat on Lancashire County Council since 2001. The Lancaster Central Division runs from the Millenium Bridge almost to Pilling in the South. Taking in Castle Ward, Scotforth West as well as Glasson Dock & Cockerham.

Care Trust to be Taken to Task

Post Office Card Account Under Threat.

Although the Post Office has made a strong bid, it is far from certain that it will win the contract. Impact of ‘White Van Man’

vans.jpgGreen Cllr Jude Towers has been liasising with the new Chair of the City Council Planning Department to try and ensure the impact of new developments on local residents whilst in the construction phase, are taken fully into account.

Currently Stirling Road residents are being impacted on by contractor parking from the new development of flats opposite the White Cross pub. The Council’s Planning Department has agreed to discuss this issue with site management and to investigate how in future developments the impact of issues such as contractor parking on surrounding streets can be minimised.

Council Double Quick Clean Up

litter-before.jpgFollowing coverage in the local Citizen newspaper of the discovery of a hidden ‘litter trap’ in Burrow Beck. (At the point where it goes under the canal at Deep Cutting via a sump.) Prompt action by local Green Councillor Chris Coates and City Council Direct Services has seen the eyesore cleaned up in double quick time. (more…)

Glasson School Wins Green Prize

glasson-school.jpgGreen-minded school children from Thurnham Glasson CE Primary School have scooped top prize for their recycling efforts. 37 primary schools in the area have been enthusiastically collecting batteries as part of a Lancashire County Council sponsored competition.
Glasson County Councillor Chris Coates said after the award “This is a real achievement for such a small village school. Everyone involved should be congratulated.”” Glasson School scooped the first prize of a brand new laptop computer. During the latest round of the ‘Tune in to Battery Recycling’ scheme, schools in Lancaster have collectively diverted 38,300 batteries from landfill.

Appletree Nursery Opens it Doors

appletree.jpgAppletree Nursery & Children’s Centre on Milking Stile Lane threw open its doors on Thursday 8th May for a Vision Day. People from the local community were invited to come and look around the newly extended and refurbished building and add their voice to the vision of the new children’s centre.

Green County Councillor Chris Coates Said after his tour “The facilities here are superb. The classroom in the nursery is equipped with the highest quality play equipment and the sensory room is a real treat.”

Call for Safe Crossing on Greaves Road

crossing-sign.jpgGreen Councillors in Scotforth West ward are calling on Lancashire County Council to install a pedestrian crossing near the Greaves Park children’s play area before a fatal accident occurs. A 10-year old girl was knocked down and injured last week while attempting to cross Greaves Road. Councillor Emily Heath has asked County Council officers to take a preventative approach to road safety concerns and to review the need for safe crossing facilities.

Green Light for Brook Street Controflow

contraflow-sign.jpgThe go ahead was given for cyclists to ride against the traffic along Brook St, at the end of Dallas road in Lancaster this week. Speaking after the scheme was approved at the Lancaster Locals meeting Green County Councillor Chris Coates said “ This is another small link in the districts cycle network. I hope that cycle contraflows will become accepted as normal by all road users, especially on quiet residential roads.” The scheme will be carried out over the next year.
