No Houses on Fleetwood Beach

fleetwoodposter.jpgControversial proposals to build housing on Fleetwood’s beach have been axed. The scheme had been put forward by consultants King Sturge as part of the town’s Masterplan as an alternative to proposals to build on the seafront pitch and putt green. But the proposals have been dropped after English Nature advised that the beach was protected as a site of special scientific interest.

Wyre Council finally acts to End Smell

unitedut.jpgWyre Borough Council has agreed a timetable of action for improvements at the Fleetwood Wastewater Treatment Works that will hopefully be a start to get rid of the smell that regularly blights the town.The plan was drawn up following a meeting between the council and United Utilities last week.

Gina Dowding said ” With some 20,000 Poles living and working in the North West we need to no make sure that they are not being exploited or their lives put at risk. Fleetwood Action Group Launched

fleetwoodmount.jpgA new Action For Fleetwood Group was launched at a packed public meeting on Tuesday - October 23 at the Warrenhurst Road Senior Citizen’s Centre. Residents backed the moved to form a group to campaign on local issues such as; the terrible smell from the Jameson Road sewage plant, the Fleetwood Masterplan and the future of the pier. The meeting also heard calls for a Fleetwood Town Council to be formed. A steering committee was elected and further meetings and a website are planned.

Canatex Gas Storage Plans Thrown Out

canatex.jpgControversial plans by Energy company Canatex to store natural gas in underground salt caverns at Preesall have been thrown out by planning inspectors. Canatex wanted to store more than one million tonnes of gas in salt caverns beneath the Wyre estuary. A public inquiry was held and the plans have now been dismissed by the Communities Secretary Hazel Blears. More than 10,000 residents initially protested against the plans.
