Greens Contest Lancaster & Fleetwood

chrisco7.jpg ginad.jpgTwo prominent local Greens are to go head to head in a ballot to decide the Green Party candidate in the new Lancaster & Fleetwood constituency at the next general election.

Former Councillor Gina Dowding and leader of the Green Group on Lancaster City Council Chris Coates have both thrown their hats into the ring, which means that there will be a full ballot of local Green Party members to decide who the Green candidate will be. (more…)

Phone Masts Planning Motion

golgotha-rd-mast.jpgJohn O’Gaunt Green Councillor Jude Towers has submitted a Motion to Lancaster City Council asking it to support the Andrew Stunell Private Members Bill - Telecommunication Masts Planning Control Bill, scheduled to have its second reading in the House of Commons on October 19th 2007.The Bill brings all masts back within the planning system - at present those below 15 metres high are exempt from control. The Motion is due to be debated by Lancaster City Council on Wednesday 26 September. (more…)

Quernmore School gets Wind Turbine

woosh1.jpgQuernmore Primary School looks set to become the first school in the district powered by the wind. The school was granted planning permission by the County Council planning ctte last week for a 5 kW wind turbine to generate electricity for the school. Using wind power will save the school upto £800 a year on its electric bills.

Sports * Games * Crafts * Outings * Talent Shows

They’re all happening at this years Playschemes.

The Playschemes are taking place at various places across the district including: Skerton St Lukes Primary School / Barton Road Community Centre / Ridge Community Centre / Marsh Community Centre
between 23rd July & 17th August - 10am-12.30 and 1.30pm-4pm

Sorry or Not?

hol_mem_pic.jpgLancaster City Council is refusing to apologise for the role the City played as the 4th largest UK port involved in the transatlantic slave trade. The City was invited to make an apology by the organisers of the March of the Abolitionists who will be arriving in town on Monday 25th June. However after an internal discussion it was decided that the matter would not be put to the meeting of the full council on Wed 20th June because there was not majority support for the idea of giving an apology.
