Dying To Go Green

green-flag.jpgTorrisholme Cemetery in Morecambe has received a prestigious award that celebrates the best parks and open spaces in the country.The cemetery has been awarded a Green Flag by the Civic Trust. It is the first time that Torrisholme Cemetery has received the award and it marks the culmination of years of hard work by Lancaster City Council and the Friends of Torrisholme Cemetery.

Keep Racists Out of Lancaster

hope-not-hate.jpgWithin half an hour of the British National Party (BNP) setting up a stall in Lancaster Market Square this saturday there was a spontaneous response from local concerned people who gathered quickly and surrounded the BNP stall. Standing in front of the stall with anti-fascist leaflets the local people shouted “keep racists out of Lancaster”. Unable to continue leafleting the BNP got fed up and packed up their stall and eventually drove off to cheers and jeers and were told not to come back!

FOE Rat Race

rat-race.jpgThe work of cartoonist POLYP, has been animated and can be seen on the International Friends of the Earth YouTube. The rat race cartoon appears in the new Big Green View newspaper launched by the Green party across North Lancashire over the summer. POLYPs work has previously appeared in The Big Issue, The New Internationalist and has been used to support many campaigns.

Scrap Road Tax & Charge Polluters

carolinelucas.jpgGreen Party Principal Speaker , Caroline Lucas MEP, has condemned chancellor Alastair Darling’s decision to delay the planned increase in fuel duty for a second time.Dr Lucas argues that cutting fuel prices, increasing fuel consumption, can only deepen the looming crisis. Instead, Greens want the Road Tax scrapped, moving the responsibility onto fuel duty, a windfall tax on excess oil company profits, and an increase in public transport investment. (more…)

North Lancs Green Newspaper Launched

Rare Tree Makes Local Comeback

black-pop.jpgThe black poplar one of Britain’s rarest native trees, is being given a boost to its numbers down in a new 15-acre reserve next to Freemans Wood.
Thanks to an Environment Agency project, to be known as Freeman’s Pools, a number of black poplar trees have been planted. The saplings are genetic matches to a mature specimen at the nearby Freeman’s Wood County Biological Heritage Site. (more…)

Councillors Cycle to Work

cycle-to-work2.jpgThere was a full cycle rack outside Morecambe town hall this week as councillors took part in national cycle to work day. At the invitation of the Green group a number of councillors from other parties joined the Greens in backing the districts cycle demonstration town team’s call for people to get on thier bikes and cycle to work.

Care Trust to be Taken to Task
