North Lancashire Green Party has welcomed the rejection of the Centros planning applications for Lancaster’s Canal Corridor, describing it as “a very fine Christmas present.”

Yesterday, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government John Denham has accepted the report of the Inspector at last summer’s planning inquiry into the Centros scheme and rejected all the planning applications. (more…)


Gina supports Climate Vigil for Copenhagen in Market Square

Gina at the Climate Vigil for Copenhagen in Market SquareOver 30 people held a vigil in Lancaster’s Market Square on the evening of Saturday 12th December. Nearly 100 passers-by added their candles to send thoughts and hopes for a Real Deal on climate action in Copenhagen.

Green Party Parliamentary candidate for Lancaster and Fleetwood, Gina Dowding, and Lancashire County councillor Chris Coates joined the event. They stood in solidarity with the people of the world, particularly in those countries already experiencing the worst effects of climate change. The vigil was organised by Transition City Lancaster.


Green Farm Visit

North Lancashire Green Party Parlimentary Candidates Gina Dowding and Chris Coates met local Wyre farmer Ian Pye and  representaives of the National Farmers Union to discuss farming issues and the NFU’s “Why Farming Matters” Election Manifesto.

Keen to learn the view of local farmers, the Green Party candidates asked about the NFU’s views on how farming can provide renewable energy, the power of supermarkets and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy. (more…)


Green Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Gina Dowding condemns Government plans for new nuclear power station Heysham

In response to the consultation at Lancaster Town Hall last week about Government plans to simplify the planning application process for new energy infrastructure, including new nuclear power stations. Lancaster commits to 10% CO2 cuts

As the worlds eyes were focused on the international climate change talks in Copenhagen Lancaster City Council agreed to cut its CO2 emmisions by 10% next year. A motion proposed by Green Cabinet member Cllr Jon Barry, that committed the council to supporting the 10:10 campaign, was passed at the recent meeting of the Full Council.
