Lancaster Green Councillors have joined the campaign to stop the governments plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. Each councillor has joined thousands of others in becoming a legal owner of part of a plot of land on the planned site of the new runway.
Green Group leader Councillor Chris Coates Said “ We have taken this action because we believe that it is a huge folly to expand Heathrow when all the evidence is that to combat the effects of climate change we have to find ways to reduce flying.”
The Greenpeace AIRPLOT campaign was launched last week by actress Emma Thompson and comedian Alistair McGowan the day before the government announced that it was giving the go ahead for the new runway. It is hoped that by having thousands of legal owners who refuse to sell their plot that the scheme can be stopped.
