A Smashing Bank Holiday

smash.jpgOver the bank holiday weekend, John O’Gaunt suffered a couple of incidents which have left the Malvern Rd bus shelter on Bowerham Rd and the telephone box at the top end of Coulston Rd, opposite the Newsagents, with smashed panels and surrounding pavements strewn with broken glass.

Green ward Councillor, Jude Towers, has logged the damaged bus shelter for repair with the County Council, has contacted the City Council and asked the pavements to be cleared of broken glass as a matter of urgency and is contacting BT about the damage to their telephone box.

Councillor Towers said ‘These incidents leave glass shards strewn across pavements and roads, people risk stepping on broken glass or having to step into the busy road to avoid it. In particular this glass hazard poses a major concern for elderly residents, children and residents’ walking their dogs. In addition, it is also a considerable problem to have to wait in damaged bus shelters, particularly with the current wet weather, or to be unable to access public telephone services when needed.’

The damage will also be reported to the John O’Gaunt community policing team.
