Council Double Quick Clean Up
Following coverage in the local Citizen newspaper of the discovery of a hidden ‘litter trap’ in Burrow Beck. (At the point where it goes under the canal at Deep Cutting via a sump.) Prompt action by local Green Councillor Chris Coates and City Council Direct Services has seen the eyesore cleaned up in double quick time.
Cllr Coates, who located the collection of litter by finding it on Google Earth, said “ I was horrified when I saw this reported in the paper – and I was even more surprised when I could actually see the litter on a satellite photo!” By the time Cllr Coates contacted the Council waste team they had already swung into action and discovered that clearing the litter was the responsibility of the Environment Agency, who quickly gave the council permission to deal with it. Result, the waste team were down there cleaning up what was possibly years of accumulated waste.
