Children will be “blown away”

woosh1.jpgThe children of Quernmore Primary School are celebrating the installation of 5kW Iskra AT5-1 wind turbine on a 12 metre mast in their school grounds. Quernmore Primary is an Eco-Schools Green Flag award-winning establishment that over the course of recent years has successfully integrated the teaching of environmental issues into its curriculum. Lawson’s Bridge Meeting

West End Christmas Lanterns

welanterns.jpgThe lantern festival is a magical start to the festive season, bringing together community groups, schools and local residents to celebrate the spirit of Morecambe’s West End community. Featuring Morecambe Band, Baybeat Carnival Band, street performances carol singing, the fabulous West End Lantern Procession and one or two surprises. Everyone welcome!

Freehold and Ridge Hill Traffic Concerns

gregson.jpgAt a Public ‘Traffic’ Meeting, held on Nov 14th at the Gregson Community Centre, residents from freehold and ridge hill expressed widespread concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety issues in the area. Bulk Ward Cllr Maia Whitelegg said “There were three significant areas of concern raised by residients: the sheer volume of traffic coming through the residential streets, unsuitable vehicles using the roads and the speed of traffic.” (more…)


Greaves Park Play Area Opens

corof.jpgA fantastic new children’s play area has now been completed at Greaves Park, between the Greaves Park hotel and the A6. Funding for the play area, which replaces the worn-out swings and seesaw at Parkfield, was raised by Friends of Greaves Park Community group FoGP was set up by local residents including Abi Mills and Green councillor for Scotforth West, Emily Heath. Abi Mills said: “I am delighted the play area is now in place. The new facility has been warmly welcomed by local families who I am sure will make good use of it.”


Glasson Marina Meeting

glassonvh.jpgBritish Waterways Marinas Ltd have agreed to hold an open public meeting where they will present and answer questions on their proposed developments for the Glasson Marina.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th December 2007, commencing at 6.30pm in the Glasson village hall.


Westbourne Road Bus Stop

bus-stop.jpgStagecoach has decided that the new temporary bus stop opposite Westbourne Place is not an ‘official bus stop’ and it has been closed. Councillors are trying to get the County Council to reinstate the stop as it provides a valuable servce for people living on Westbourne Road and in Westfield Village.Following a meeting between Cllr Chris Coates, representatives from Stagecoach and the County Council it has been agreed to put in an application for an official stop.


Powitanie – Support for Polish Workers

891542-flag_of_poland-poland.gifThe TUC has launched a new Polish language website to support the increasing number of Polish workers in the UK. Gina Dowding said ” With some 20,000 Poles living and working in the North West we need to no make sure that they are not being exploited or their lives put at risk. School Closures Meeting

ltownhall.jpgLancashire County Council Deptuty Chairman Alan Whittaker still considers the establishment of a privately sponsered Academy School in Lancaster as the best way forward for secondary schools in the district. He made this statement at a meeting in Lancaster Town Hall of the City Council Task Group that is looking into the issues surounding the proposed closures of Hornby & Skerton High schools (more…)


Don’t Duck The Issue Swim

swim.jpgLancaster City Council Cabinet member Maia Whitelegg enjoyed a welcome mug of steaming chocolate after completing a charity swim in lake Windermere for the ‘Don’t Duck The Issue’ campaign. Along with 64 other swimmers Maia, who holds the Cabinet post with responsibility for Young People, raised over £8,500 on the day towards funding for an emergency shelter for homeless young people in Lancaster.
