British Waterways Marinas Ltd has plans up it’s sleeve to redevelop the canal basin at Glasson Dock doubling the number of moorings, building holiday chalets and a caravan park – or Does it?
Local councillors and concerned residents have become increasingly worried by speculation as to the intentions of BW Marinas after work started on new pontoons in the canal basin and rumours circulated about massive expansion plans. After making inquiries at the planning dept Cllr Chris Coates said “ I’m told that the planners are letting some works to go ahead under what is called a General Development Order, which doesn’t require a planning application, but that any further plans will have to go before the planning committee. I find it very disturbing that this scale of development can happen without the public having a chance to see any plans.” Residents who packed the October meeting of the Glasson Parish Council called for BW Marinas to hold an open public meeting so that local people could find out what was really being proposed.
