Next to discussing the weather, complaining about traffic problems is one of the most ‘popular pastimes’ in town. The one-way gyratory system is regularly on go-slow and seems to grind to a halt at the slightest mishap on the system. (Not to mention the gridlock caused by an accident on the M6) It is also the reason for much of the rat-running through residential areas that goes on. We must make sure that any new development doesn’t do anything to make matters worse.
Our proposals for a smaller scale retail development and car-free housing will help reduce the impact of any increase in traffic. The whole area (Inc; the Ridge, Freehold, Bathmill and the Moorlands & Primrose areas) needs a detailed traffic management plan to address the impacts of any new development. Maybe the time has come to look at the whole one-way gyratory system and consider whether it is worth keeping.
