Heritage

The canal corridor area contains a number of significant historic buildings that we believe should be preserved. The Grand theatre being the most prominent along with the Tramway pub, the terrace of shops and housing that makes up Stonewell and the small square at the bottom of Moor Lane. All these buildings make a significant contribution to the streetscape of the area and are part of the character of this part of town.

The other properties of major architectural and heritage importance in the area are the collection of buildings that make up the old brewery site between Brewery Lane and Edward st. There has been a brewery on this site since at least the eighteenth century. We envisage that these buildings would be a feature on the east side of a new public square and could be renovated and brought back into some sort of leisure use to complement the Dukes and the Grand.
