There has been much talk of creating a ‘cultural quarter’ in this part of town. With the Dukes and Grand theatres, the musician co-op, Youth Theatre workshop and Dance Studio already here the opportunity exists to turn the talk into reality. Just outside the area are small music venues and clubs that all contribute to making this a lively part of town.
We see that this could be built upon with the whole area focused on a new public square. The square could be used for specialist outdoor markets, events, rallies and even concerts. The theatres would be remodelled to improve access and face onto the new square. Further improvements to the theatres could me made with Arts Council funding. The old brewery building could be renovated for leisure; Such as a much need youth facility with indoor skate park, small music venue, climbing wall……..
